The goal of this clinic is to focus on using traditional Tang Soo Do for self-defense. It will focus on some of our traditional drills and explore how to make them more relevant to self-defense, as well as introduce some new drills that allow students to apply their knowledge to self-defense.
Examples of topics that may be covered in the clinic are :
Note : All topics are subject to change depending on time, instructors and attendees.
The clinic happens on :
It will be followed by a dinner at 19:30.
The clinic will be held at the gym located at the following address:
Gymnase Jules Ferry
Place Claude Jordery
69600 Oullins
If coming from the airport, take the Rhônexpress all the way to Lyon Part-Dieu (main railway station in Lyon).
Coming by train will also likely get you to Lyon Part-Dieu station.
From there, take the subway : Metro B (blue line) towards St-Genis-Laval Hôp Sud. Get off at Oullins Centre, and it's then a short walk to the gym.
The clinic will be 30€ for both days.
Head on to ChungShin to register before May 14th!
Lyon has plenty of hotels, and is easily accessible with Metro line B.
It might be easier to book a hotel in Oullins, however. The Ibis Lyon Sud hotel has special rates for sporting events! You can contact them by email (check ChungShin to get the address).
During the clinic, we will cover topics that tie into extreme violence. Our goal as martial artists is obviously to avoid unecessary violence, and everything in the clinic will be designed towards that goal. Most of the clinic will be doing drills and practicing Tang Soo Do, but we will probably talk at some point or other about :
Again, the goal is to prepare students for what might happen in a real situation, so they have better chances to get out of it alive (and hopefully uninjured) and not go to jail afterwards.
Before registering, please make sure this won't be a problem. Or at least let us know in advance.
If you are under legal age, make sure your legal guardian(s) read this warning before they agree to your joining this clinic.
If anyone, Cho Dan or above, feel they have something to contribute to the topic, please get back to us with a short explanation of what their drill is about, so we can decide whether we can fit it into our program. Please keep in mind that we want drills that keep students safe and out of jail. We won't either accept anything that could result in an injury. We reserve the right to stop and cancel any drill we judge unsafe, even right during the clinic.
While in Oullins, you are a short drive (or a few subway stops) from the historic center of Lyon, where you can find lots of really good restaurants, museums and shops. Restaurants will be open on Sunday, shops will not.
Additionally, you can just take a nice walk in the old city and enjoy the sights.
If planning to stay for longer, about an hour north of Lyon you will be in Beaujolais, where you can find a lot of wineries, and about the same drive south will get you to Côte-du-Rhône, with a lot more wineries. And if you don't like wine, hiking amongst the vines is really enjoyable.
